Leonard Kip Van Dyck Letters.
Rutgers Class of 1911
Using the
General Catalog of Rutgers College. 1766-1916, I found that there were only 2 Leonards enrolled around 1908. Using Ancestry.com, I found
that Leonard Kip Van Dyck had a little sister named
Elizabeth (B? Beth?) who was 4 in 1910. These little letters, each measuring
3.5’’ x 4.5’’ unfolded, might have been written by
Leonard to his little sister to remind her of her big brother in the time
before email and facetime. Since there’s no postmark on the tiny
envelope, they could have been slipped inside a regular size letter meant for
the grown-ups in the house. Much of this is speculation, but it can still make
you smile.
